Festive Gourds to Grace the Tree

During the warm weather months, some vines take on a life of their own and are full of gourds. Artist Jennifer Zingg takes what nature gives her and creates beautiful artwork using gourds. During the holidays, kids can get in on the act and create gourd art to hang on the tree.

Here are the steps for creating your own gourd art:

1. Sketch out your design with a pencil.

2. Follow the outline with a small craft woodburner. (Be sure to supervise older children who do this step and for smaller children, parents will need to do this for them.)

3. Add color with markers or different kinds of paint (textured, metallic, glitter, etc.).

4. To hang, drill a tiny hole on the top and use glue to attach a small bead and string for the loop.
