The Chase family lives in a rustic farmhouse and wants a holiday look that coincides with their cozy, country style. Designer Nan Sloan and host Joan Steffend start by looking through the Chases' decorations to find what will go with the natural look they're after, then set to work transforming the house for the holidays.
$8 - Porch
The porch is adorned with branches cut from the homeowners' arborvitae tree. Wire tomato cages are stacked to create a tree form, then the greenery is secured with wire. Wire wreath frames are filled in with arborvitae branches and pine cones attached with hot glue, then hung in front of the windows with plaid ribbon.
$34 - Arbor
An arbor is created out of four posts, trellis and 1x6 boards. More arborvitae branches and white lights are used for a garland on the front and over the top.
$46 - Bedroom
Sloan secures an Advent garland decorated with small stockings on the ceiling above the bed. A small tree on a night table and checked pillow fabric complete the holiday look in the bedroom.
$52 - Kitchen
Aromatic garlands made out of cinnamon sticks and dried fruit decorate the hanging pot rack. White Christmas lights are stuffed into mason jars for a simple display in the bay window over the sink. A holiday tablecloth, red plates and the homeowners' rooster collection finish out the festive look.
- multicolored tablecloth: T.J. Maxx - sku #674778
- red dinner plates: Pier 1 - sku #1924502
$25 - Angel
A rustic angel is created out of molding, a porch post, two porch brackets and rope. The ends of the moldings are given a decorative cut with a jigsaw to resemble a wing shape. The molding is then attached to the porch post, then the two brackets are secured underneath the molding. Old rope is unraveled, secured with wire in the middle, then nailed into the top of the post.
$33 - Wreaths
Two picture frames are given a crackle finish and hung on the wall framing two wreaths.
- wreaths: Lakeland Floral
$20 - Stone Village
Steffend, Sloan and the Chase family all pitch in to create a stone village using rocks from the property and acrylic paints. Miniature figures from a craft store enhance the charming display.
$17 - Garland
Artificial garland is used inside but Sloan stuffs real greens in with the fake for a more natural look.
- garland: Lakeland Floral
