Eli, the SailorEli — Chihuahua
Lives with Karen Biehl
New York, N.Y.
Eli is adorable in his tiny sailor costume. His owner, Karen, created the sailor hat from a paper cup, which is loosely held in place with a rubber band. Eli is not just a shipshape sailor, he is also somewhat of a canine celebrity. He has been featured in New York Dog Magazine, has won many costume contests and a canine beauty pageant. This fall he and Karen will be featured on the Milkbone box after they won a cover dog contest.
Sascha, Sarah, Sally, Sybil, Sophia and Sidney — Pugs
Live with Lynda Rosenberg Zacks
Vancouver, B.C.
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a pugglebee?! This adorable bumblebee costume is just one of more than 200 custom outfits Lynda has for her six pugs. The dogs not only have an outfit for every occasion, they also have a large collection of jewelry and hundreds of coats. Lynda takes her pugs everywhere with her and when traveling by plane even buys a seat for each dog. To transport her clan on land, she uses a "puggy buggy," a stroller that holds all six pugs.
Kitai — Lhasa Apso mix
Lives with Stacie Tamaki
San Jose, Calif.
Kitai is ready to roll in this smoked salmon nigiri sushi costume created by her owner, Stacie. She creates imaginative, handmade Halloween costumes for Kitai each year. She obviously delights in finishing Katai's costumes down to the tiniest details, such as the soy sauce packet, chopsticks and felt ginger and wasabi.
Abby — Saint Bernard
Lives with Mary C. Ratcliffe
North Olmstead, Ohio
A pinch of fairy dust and Mary's sewing skills have transformed Abby into a pretty pink princess. Mary has trouble finding canine clothing in Abby’s size in stores, so she has decided to make the outfits herself. She often uses online patterns, letting them out a little to more comfortably fit Abby.
Chloe — Pug
Lives with Debra Thesing
Webster, N.Y.
Chloe is ready for the rodeo in this adorable western costume, complete with a cowboy hat and tiny holster. Debra, Chloe's owner, makes clothes for all four of her pugs and says that her pets' comfort and safety are key. Before beginning an outfit, Debra measures each pug and tries on the pieces as she is sewing to ensure a comfy fit. She avoids adding small parts that could fall off and her pets could choke on. This seasoned seamstress says that no matter what the holiday, Chloe and the rest of her canine clan are accustomed to dressing up and don't mind it at all.
