An Unforgettable Holiday

Designer Robb Whittlef creates special holiday plates for the family. A storage box label written in Mom's own handwriting is traced and transferred onto dinnerware. To start, Whittlef uses tracing paper and pencil to trace the original label. He then flips the tracing paper over, holds the pencils sideways and scratches the image from the back side with the pencil lead. The tracing paper is flipped over again and placed on top of the plate. Whittlef then traces the design once more with pencil so it transfers a faint image onto the plate. He then uses porcelain markers to draw the design on the plates. Additional porcelain markers are given to the boys so they can finish decoring the edges of the plates.
