In the dining room, one wall is painted with chalkboard paint so the kids can write on it. The rest of the walls are given the same khaki color palette as the living room. One wall is personalized with some of Mom's favorite phrases as a reminder of her spirit. A built-in bench made from an old door and new beadboard provides extra seating and adds architectural interest. A discarded dining table found by the side of the road is brought back to life with a fresh coat of paint. The new table is illuminated with another great secondhand find — a brass light fixture cleverly revived with more black spray paint.
