Remodeling Tips for How to Install Ceramic Floor Tile from the Pros at HGTV

One of the easiest bathroom remodeling projects you can undertake yourself is updating your bathroom’s flooring. Removing outdated vinyl flooring and replacing it with ceramic tile will add life to the room and the pros at HGTV have all the remodeling tips to show you how to install ceramic floor tile.

How to Install Ceramic Floor Tile
Ceramic tile is popular flooring homeowners can install themselves—especially in a small space like a bathroom. But because our bathroom’s environment is often wet and damp, it's important to follow the correct procedures for how to install ceramic tile. The first remodeling tip the pros at HGTV provide is if your home is not on a concrete slab, you must lay down cement backer board on the sub floor. They are easy to handle, and are cut to fit into spaces using a utility knife. The next step in your bathroom remodeling project is to actually lay out the tiles as you want them to look when finished. Use spacers between the tiles to define the grout lines. Then secure the tiles to the floor with mortar, or thin-set using a trowel with quarter-inch grooves on two sides to spread the mortar. Once the mortar sets, it's time to remove the spacers and add the grout. The objective is to squeeze grout into the seams using a float and then your fingers. You'll also need access to clean water and some bath towels to clean away excess grout from the tile surfaces.
