Under the watchful eyes of architect Richard Morris Hunt, the Vanderbilt family architect, The Breakers as we know it today was built by various contractors and international craftsman from January of 1894 until the summer of 1895.

Room by Room: Vanderbilt Style
Matt Fox and Shari Hiller travel to Newport, R.I., to visit the former summer cottage of the Vanderbilt family known as The Breakers. While touring this beautiful stately home, they learn about its design history from its curator, Paul Miller. Fox and Hiller also take this opportunity to gather inspiration for a guest bedroom they are decorating back home "Vanderbilt" style.
