Quilting expert Alex Anderson gives these suggestions for working with old clothing.

  • Always pre-wash the clothes.

  • Avoid warn spots.

  • When sewing denim always use at least a 3/4" seam allowance.

  • Try using a heavyweight stabilizer on lightweight fabric when piecing it with denim.
