Host Alex Anderson takes us for a tour of her new home quilting studio in northern California. Anderson had specific requirements for her quilting studio including building an extra room onto her home. She visited several studios to "borrow" inspiration, then her dad, Joe Sladky, assisted with the project and ideas for her studio. The 500-square-foot project took three months to complete but well worth the wait. Every corner, nook and open space was analyzed and designed with functionality in mind.

  • Track lights -Installed for visual enhancement (figure A).

  • Wire basket storage system - Utilized to store fabric (figure B).

  • Office chair - Incorporated for optimum mobility.

  • Design wall - Hung an insulation board covered with a grided fleece (figure C) nailed to the wall.

  • Quilt storage - Built in five shelves in the closet area for storing quilts (figure D).

  • Tool storage - An antique toolbox is used to store quilting tools (figure E).

  • Non-loop carpeting - Selected to allow for T-pinning quilt backing (figure F) and basting quilt layers together right on the carpet. The thread won't sew to the carpet.
