Xeriscaping
Xeriscaping (landscaping to conserve water) has grown in popularity, and the homeowners want to take advantage of this method to make their yard easier to maintain. Their brick ranch-style house was built in the 1960s, and the yard needs updating. A timber wall planter runs parallel to the house and emphasizes the straight flat lines of the house's facade. The solution is to remove the timber planter and add curvilinear planting beds. Adding a curving cobblestone walkway creates a friendly entrance to the house. The landscape solution focuses on using plants that have the same water requirements in the beds.
