Building Berms, Paving Paths
Northern California homeowners Jay and Pat Workman hired landscape designer Yoshi Kuraishi to take on the task of transforming an area into a peaceful, Japanese-style haven. Jay and Yoshi proceed with a number of steps to block the view of the carport from the serenity of the garden, using inexpensive materials with a Japanese feel. When choosing and arranging plants for a Japanese garden, proportion is a key consideration, and the goal should be to mirror the harmony of nature, says Yoshi. He offers several suggestions on how to proceed. Gina Richardson, of nearby Richardson Concrete, joined the Workmans to give new life to their old concrete patio.
