Solar Power, Portable Lighter, Hot Tub
The idea of turning sunlight directly into electricity didn't come around until 1839. That's when French physicist Antoine-Cesar Becquerel first realized that when light was shined on an electrode held in a conductive solution, it gave off an electric current. Then in 1958, NASA realized they needed a way to power their new vanguard satellite once it was in orbit. Thus, the solar cell found its place in the sun. Next, the portable lighters we have today were first introduced in 1923 when the Dunhill Unique was put on the market. By the '60s, lighters quickly adopted plastic for a majority of their parts. Around the same time butane became the fuel of choice. This greatly decreased the cost, making portable lighters available to everyone. Finally, the history of the hot tub has its ancient and modern roots in the Italian peninsula. Roman society first popularized relaxing in hot baths, but it was the Italian immigrants, the Jacuzzi brothers, who are responsible for hot tubs we have today. In 1968, Roy Jacuzzi invented and marketed the first self-contained whirlpool bath.
