Haunted Goth Manse

Shade House and More
From our smallest house to our scariest house ever, this episode has everything the neighbors never wanted. First, in Houston, two diminutive architects, Anne Eamon and Mark Schatz, built a modern, economically designed 700-square-foot place that's just the right fit for them--from rolling bookcases to a tiny tearoom loft. Next, in Venice, Calif., huge swaths of colored cloth shade a rusted metal and glass ultramodern place. Architect and owner Stephen Ehrlich calls it The Shade House. We wrap in Portland, Ore., with an old gothic mansion that positively terrifies the neighborhood children. The homeowners say there's even truth to rumors that it's haunted!
