Challenge 4: Designers' Challenge Kitchen Makeover

Get all of my design tips from the weekly judgment of the challenges.

The kitchen is truly the center of the home and where most families spend the most significant amount of interaction time. Because it also has the most number of working components and appliances, some of the key things to keep in mind when renovating this room are quality, durability and layout. A great design in a kitchen amounts to only half the battle since this room receives the most wear and tear of any space in a home. Execution is critical here and should not be compromised.

Design Kitchens With Flexibility in Mind
After each of the remaining designers was given a chance to develop a design direction for the winners of this kitchen makeover contest, presentations commenced and Temple's design was selected as the best by the homeowners. Blending both traditional and contemporary elements, Temple's design is a good example of where design is headed these days.

Instead of creating a thematic kitchen where all elements can be classified as "traditional," "Tuscan," "retro" or "modern," create spaces that allow a blending of design styles for future flexibility. Spaces, like families, are organic and change constantly. Therefore, timeless kitchens tend to have a little more flexibility in their design foundation to allow for changes to be made and easily incorporated.
