My First Place

The Good, The Bad, The Really Funny

(Continued from Page 10)
"Our first home we lovingly called Noah's Ark. It was 1985. We lived in Ft. Lauderdale at the end of a football field and next to a place called Faith Farm! It took faith to live there! There was only heat in one room and that was gas bricks. We put a/c in that room, too! I believe it was built directly on the ground. In the course of our short year there, we found a scorpion nest and carpenter-ant nests. We had a skunk that would come at sit on our door ledge and just look in. If we walked to him he would run and then come back and watch us! The kicker came when we came home one day to find a land crab in our bedroom trying to find his way out! Believe me, we helped him out!!!

The windows were so old, they still had the crank that we had to use to crank out each window. When the windows were open, the flying roaches, which were plentiful, could fly in and land on us while we slept. We wouldn't feel them until they got almost to our face. It was a cute little house, though, and just right for newlyweds, who didn't care where they lived. It was the best we could find for the money we had."
