"Our first home was in Birmingham, Alabama, and it had white siding and a green roof, porch and shutters. We purchased it for $800 in 1966 and made payments of $48 per month. Right before our wedding, we put a fresh coat of paint on the inside and installed new carpet, then moved our wedding gifts, clothes and furniture in, so that we could go "home" when we got back from our honeymoon. The small closet, bath, bedroom, dining area and kitchen were all within a few steps of each other. The bathroom was extremely small. We had a white clothes hamper with a lid that raised against one wall, and the toilet was on the opposite wall. We still get a laugh when we remember the time my husband lifted the lid on the toilet and threw in his dirty underwear. We have many happy memories of our little dollhouse."
