The Good, The Bad, The Really Funny

We asked you to send in your stories of setting up your first home—and here are some of our favorites!

"Shortly after getting married in 1974, we rented a neglected 100-year-old house and embarked on learning to paint and panel. We quickly discovered the truest test of a marriage's soundness is applying wallpaper together. Our biggest battle, though, was in keeping the mice at bay, and each fall we stuffed every crevice and opening beneath the baseboards with steel wool. After waking to the scamper of tiny feet overhead in the attic for four long years, it was a great treat to move into our newly built home and leave the box of steel wool and mousetraps behind!"
