Materials:

steel rods
cement screws (optional)
primer and paint for steel

Tools:

welder (rental)
plasma cutter (rental)
drill press
grinder
metal chop saw
welding mask
heat-resistant gloves
cordless drill
safety glasses
level

Tip:

• Welders and plasma cutters can be very useful, but also extremely dangerous. Before using one, be sure to get instructions from an expert and be completely familiar with how to operate it.

Steps:

1. Measure the space for the gates and cut spindles and frame pieces to fit (figure A).
2. Drill and grind holes for spindles.

3. Weld frame pieces together (figure B) and grind to smooth out welds (figure C).

4. Insert the spindles (figure D), weld (figure E) and grind to smooth out welds.
5. Prime and paint the gates as desired.

6. Hang the gate in desired area. If attaching to a brick wall, drill pilot holes and screw in with cement screws (figure F). If no wall, secure the gate to the ground (figure G).
