Before: Bland White

After: Antiqued Green
Materials:

water-based, flat finish interior wall paint (1 gallon covers 400-500 sq. ft.)
1 quart water-based, flat finish interior wall paint (for the antique faux application)
paint rollers
paint roller naps
water-based paint brushes
paint trays
drop cloth
painter's tape

Tips:

• Use extendable paint rollers for tall walls and ceilings.
• Use an angled bristle brush to apply paint into corners.
• Practice the faux finish technique on a piece of drywall or sample board before starting on the walls.

Steps:

1. Pick out the desired color scheme for your room. Lay drop cloths or old sheets to protect flooring. Tape off the baseboards, trim, molding and outlets.

2. Apply one base coat of paint with paint rollers on the entire wall. Use brushes for the edges and smaller areas (figure A). Apply a second coat if necessary. Let dry.

3. To create the antique faux finish, dip a small brush into the desired paint about halfway up the bristles. Wipe off all the excess paint so that you have an almost dry brush. Lightly stroke the wall with the brush up and down in the desired areas (figure B). Let dry. If you would like a more weathered look, repeat the technique in a left to right motion.
