Carpenter Russ Hemmis of 24 Hour Design.

Russ Hemmis had a wonderful childhood growing up in Rosamond, Calif., a small desert town about 1-1/2 hours north of Los Angeles. He loved his childhood so much that he's never quite outgrown his boyish antics. He is a self-proclaimed goofball with a hammer who isn't afraid to try anything. "The worst that can happen is I'll fail and have to do it again ? and then maybe a third time." He and his best friend, Marcus, call themselves Team Two Times because it usually takes them twice to get it right.

A self-taught carpenter, Hemmis considers himself to be a jack of all trades. Being able to do everything from plumbing and electrical work to drywall, flooring and trim work has allowed him to take on large-scale projects. For the past five years, he has been flipping houses in southern California, starting with a rent-to-own program that helps first-time buyers get into a home. Recently, he and his business partner finished the renovation of a four-unit building in Hollywood. Now he is looking forward to having more time to enjoy his favorite activity, skydiving.
