Ravine Garden
Host Haig Seferian meets with landscape architect Mark Hartley to see how he managed the task of designing a large space. On this two-acre property, Hartley used principles of unity, proportion and harmony to create a space that is large but not intimidating. The garden is filled with surprises, secrete gardens and invites exploration from everyone that visits. In the makeover segment, host William Anderson visits with Terence Flynn. Flynn and his partner have moved into their home, and they've inherited a small but lush garden. While they have many ideas on how they will change the garden, Anderson has some immediate solutions to their problems. Keeping the rustic feeling of the space in mind, he will use some sculptural elements to fill in holes in the garden. He also adds furniture to their deck so they can better enjoy the garden and plan its renewal. In the do-it-yourself segment, host Meriel Bradley shows a unique and fun way to create a rockery garden. Bradley doesn't buy rocks of different sizes and shapes for the garden; she makes them. Once you've mastered this technique, there's no limit to the ways you can customize these homemade rocks to fit your garden style. In the design segment, Seferian and Hartley return to explore in more detail the wonderful lily pond that Hartley built in the large ravine garden in the first segment. Hartley designed the pond to act as a mini-ecosystem, and it is home to a variety of plants and fish.
