Gardening by the Yard
Episode GBY-619

Late-Winter Planting
With the last few weeks of winter giving way to warmer temperatures, master gardener Paul James talks about what can be done to get you out and gardening. James visits palm-tree enthusiast Jim Wright at his San Diego home. Wright's yard is home to some 80 different species of palm trees that form a private jungle. James also talks about various tools commonly associated with home or auto repair that he finds useful in the yard and about his all-time favorite food, potatoes; they are easy plants to grow and have a great, earthy flavor. Potatoes come in many types spanning the spectrum from baker potatoes (like russet or Idaho potatoes, which are high in starch and low in moisture) to boiler potatoes, which are moist but not so starchy.
