One of the things that makes country design so meaningful is the many ways it has of preserving memories. Take travel, for example--your spirit of adventure doesn 't have to end when a trip is over. As an expert from Country Sampler Decorating Ideas shows, souvenirs, postcards and letters can all be used to create country displays that will remind you every day of the great times you had.
  • Cover frame mats with maps, postcards or tickets (figure A).
  • Transform a blank bedroom wall with large photocopies of journal pages from a vacation or other correspondence (figure B). Randomly place the copies on the wall with wallpaper paste. For an aged appearance, first crumple the copies, adhere to the wall then apply a thinned-out brown acrylic paint or glaze.
  • Use spray adhesive to attach a map to a lampshade. The shade at right features a fun map with visual pictures of landmarks in Paris, France (figure C).
