Wallpaper expert Brian Santos notes that after stripping wallpaper from a wall, it is important to make sure that all of the adhesive has been removed before painting or installing new wallpaper. To detect this, simply mix iodine and water, then spray onto the wall. A purple or reddish color will appear where any adhesive remains.
