Crimped wallpaper makes an interesting statement when used as a lampshade.
Author and decorator Pat McMillan helps match wall coverings to walls and gives wallpaper border ideas and applications for lampshades.

Bug band decoupage:

masking tape
vinyl to vinyl adhesive
embroidery scissors
small point brush to apply adhesive
purchased fabric-covered shade

Steps:
  1. Cut out bugs and arrange them on the shade. Temporarily affix them with masking tape.
  2. Remove one bug at a time to glue onto shade.
  3. Place bug face down on clean paper (not newspaper because it might come off on the wall covering.)
  4. Use a small paintbrush to liberally apply adhesive to reverse side of bug. Press bug onto shade and finger-press to make sure it adheres.
  5. Go on to next bug and repeat the same steps.

Pleated slipcover for a shade:

border three times the circumference of shade bottom
clips to hold finished pleats together
hole punch
decorative ribbon or cord to thread through pleats
pencil and triangle or ruler

Steps:

  1. Mark the border top and bottom at one-inch intervals.
  2. Pleat the border by folding and creasing with your fingers.
  3. Use a hole punch to punch holes one inch from top and bottom edges.
  4. Overlap the last pleat and string ribbon through the line of holes at the top and bottom.
  5. Fit pleated slipcover over the shade and adjust for size.
  6. Tie the top and bottom cords with a bow.

Self-adhesive shades with trim:

self-adhesive shade
trim
wall covering adhesive seam sealer

Steps:

  1. Follow directions on shade for adhering fabric, except cut wallcovering to size of the shade.
  2. You can also wrap the wallcovering to the inside of the shade like fabric but you will have to keep pressing the wallcovering down with your fingers after you have run a bead of seam sealer on the inside to affix it.
  3. Then you cover the seams with trim. Use wall covering seam sealer adhesive to adhere the trim.
