Renai Ellison creates fabric wall panels. These aren't wall hangings but treatments, and the right fabric can be a focal point for the entire room.
Fabric Wall Panel Treatments
Materials:
paint (in the same color as the fabric--in this case, it's evergreen)
glaze
decorative molding
metallic-paint finish
fabric
spray adhesive
chip brush
board backing
wood-glue gun
Steps:
- Mix paint and glaze (figure A). If you want a darker glaze, add more paint.
- Apply the glaze to the decorative molding you've selected from a home-supply store (figure B), making sure to work in the glaze deeply and thoroughly. The store can cut the molding for you. The size used in this project is 16 x 32-inches (the fabric will be smaller than this).
- Apply a metallic-paint finish to the glazed molding to make it "pop."
- Flip the fabric piece over and apply a spray adhesive to the edges. Spray the middle lightly (figure C).
- Lay the fabric down on the backing and spread evenly with the base of your hand (figure D).
- Use the wood-glue gun to apply the glue to the molding, then place evenly across each side of the fabric (figure E). Remember, the fabric is one inch smaller than the molding.
