Renai Ellison creates fabric wall panels. These aren't wall hangings but treatments, and the right fabric can be a focal point for the entire room.

Fabric Wall Panel Treatments

Materials:

paint (in the same color as the fabric--in this case, it's evergreen)
glaze
decorative molding
metallic-paint finish
fabric
spray adhesive
chip brush
board backing
wood-glue gun

Steps:

  1. Mix paint and glaze (figure A). If you want a darker glaze, add more paint.

  2. Apply the glaze to the decorative molding you've selected from a home-supply store (figure B), making sure to work in the glaze deeply and thoroughly. The store can cut the molding for you. The size used in this project is 16 x 32-inches (the fabric will be smaller than this).

  3. Apply a metallic-paint finish to the glazed molding to make it "pop."

  4. Flip the fabric piece over and apply a spray adhesive to the edges. Spray the middle lightly (figure C).

  5. Lay the fabric down on the backing and spread evenly with the base of your hand (figure D).

  6. Use the wood-glue gun to apply the glue to the molding, then place evenly across each side of the fabric (figure E). Remember, the fabric is one inch smaller than the molding.
