Homasote Over Paneling

Host Matt Fox changes the look of the dark paneling by nailing Homasote board covered in craft felt over it. This is a temporary fix and is easily removed.

Materials:

Homasote
felt
staple gun
scissors
measuring guide
black ink pen
nail gun
cap molding
drill
paint
white paneling nails
hammer

Steps:

  1. Lay felt down, place the board in the middle and staple the felt in place. Start in the middle of the longer side and staple to the ends. Pull the opposite long side taut and attach as before(figure A).

  • Staple the two short sides. Secure the corners by pulling the felt as tight as possible, making several overlaps.
  • Cut off excess on corners (figure B).

  • Create a faux metal look on the bottom gray panels by creating a six-inch grid with a tape measure and black ink pen. Add diagonal lines to finish the effect (figure C).
  • Mount boards with a nail gun and add cap molding. Pre-drill holes in molding and lightly tap nails in place. Paint exposed ends white.
