Go on safari with inexpensive reed fencing! Homeowner John Kobzeff shares how to cut, stain and attach reed fencing to your walls to complement almost any decor.

Materials:

6' x 15' reed fencing
stain
Varathane
paintbrush
garden shears
insulated staples
hammer

Steps:

  1. Lay out the reed fencing over a large surface. Using garden shears, cut to desired height.
  2. Apply stain and three coats of Varathane (figure A). Allow to dry.
  3. Attach to wall with insulated staples (normally used for telephone and electrical wires)(figure B). Hammer a staple every five or six inches along the wire in the fencing (figure C). Use the claw on the hammer to lightly pull the fencing straight along the wall (figure D).
  4. Attach a chair rail at the top for finished look (figure E).
