Shari Hiller suggests these interesting ways to use borders:
  • To highlight the angles on the raised ceiling in the featured bedroom (figure A), a lovely cut border was installed upside down with the straight edge along the break in the ceiling. To make it appear as though it wraps around the corner, an additional coordinating rope design border on the flat edge (figure B). The ceiling is painted as close to the background color of the border as possible to make it seem as though the flowers and roping are floating on the ceiling.

  • Use a narrow border to create architectural boxes on walls (figure C). Line several up along a feature wall or all the way around a room to create perfect places to hang artwork plus add texture and color to a room.

  • Connect pieces of artwork as if the border design is a ribbon or fabric trim. Create a dimensional bow out of the border, and attach it at the top with a tack to even further support the illusion (figure D).
  • Paste a border that imitates an elaborate carved molding along the edge of a door's trim to add architectural detail.

  • Use a border to create a decorative striped wall covering for an entire wall or room after painting a coordinating base coat. Strike plumb lines to make sure the borders are parallel for a custom look that's less daunting than adding full panels of wallpaper if you've never tried hanging it before (figure E).

We regret that wall/ceiling paint and wallpaper border specifics are not available.
