Wallpaper Wizardry

Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-325 -- More Projects »
Brian Santos, also known as "The Wall Wizard," provides a thorough on wallpapering.

Wallpapering Tips

  • Use a carpenter's square instead of a knife to cut wallpaper.

  • A flower box makes the perfect activation station (holds water) for pieces of wallpaper.

  • When applying the paper, always use a brush to smooth it down.

  • Always brush up and down--never side to side.

  • Cover a piece of string with chalk and add a weight to the end. Hang from the wall. When the weight stops moving, press the string to the wall, leaving a straight chalk line.

Repairing Damaged Wallpaper

  • Match an overlap piece with the pattern of the wallpaper.

  • Cut an oval through both the patch piece and the paper on the wall.

  • Remove the damaged oval of wallpaper and replace it with the new piece.
