Bunny DeLorie, owner of Fe Fi Faux Finish, demonstrates how to tint black-and-white photocopies to decorate walls and accessories.
Materials:
black and white designs or photographs copied onto color copy paper
walnut hollow nostalgic memory album 10 x 12 (for photo album)
Fiskars Decorative Edge Scissors
Delta Sobo glue
Delta Soft Tints Matte Sealer and Glaze
Delta Soft Tints: Leaf Green, Burgundy, Light Brown, Golden Yellow, Black Delta Color Float
1" foam brush
assorted artist brushes
palette
scissors
paper towels
Steps:
- Spread Sobo glue evenly over the back of each copy using a foam brush. Position the copy on surface and smooth down carefully to avoid wrinkles.
- Pour a small amount of color float onto palette. Dip the tip of a small artist brush lightly into the color float, then into the first Soft Tints color. You only need a little amount of each to achieve the desired look.
- Brush onto surface. Continue painting all areas of design or photo you wish to enhance. Some areas can be shaded with black to create depth and dimension (figure A). Let dry several hours.
- Finish surface with two coats of Matte Sealer and Glaze. Allow each coat to dry for one hour. Clean brushes with soap and water.
