Materials:
40 lb. brown craft paper, 48" wide
Benjamin Moore Aquavelvet latex semi-gloss #1235
Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo oil-based semi-gloss #1215
Benjamin Moore Oil-based Glazing Liquid
paint thinner
paint roller
cellulose sponge
gold metallic spray paint
wallpaper paste
razor blades
rags
respirator mask
Note: Always wear a respirator mask when spraying paint to avoid inhaling the fumes or particles.
Steps:
- Cut the paper into a workable length. Gary Lord used an 18" x 48" piece.
- Apply #1235 completely over the area, and let it dry.
- Make a glaze using equal parts Impervo, paint thinner and glazing liquid. Apply the glaze with a roller, and pat it off with a damp cellulose sponge (figure A ). Let the glaze dry.
- Spray gold metallic paint in an uneven pattern, holding the can six to 12 inches from the paper. Let the paint dry.
- Tear the paper into soft-edged, non-geometric shapes no longer than 18" each.
- Apply wallpaper paste to the back of each piece, and place it on the wall (figure B). Sections will overlap in certain areas, so use a damp towel to wipe the paste off the face of each section.
- Use a razor blade to trim a clean line around the moldings and the ceiling.
