Toolbox: Rasps

Help Around the House : Episode ARH-157 -- More Projects »
If you need to carve or shape a piece of wood, a combination rasp file is a great tool. It offers you four different cutting options: a coarse and medium rasp and a course and medium file.

Now, the difference between a rasp and a file is that a rasp has big teeth that really cut a lot of material, really quick. It is very aggressive.

The file, on the other hand, is not quite as aggressive, but you have more control and you end up with a smooth surface. To finish off your work, you always use a piece of fine sandpaper to make everything as smooth as silk.
