Figure C
A putty knife is a tremendously helpful tool and something you certainly want to have in your toolbox. There are several different types of putty knives.

A knife with a flexible, narrow blade is useful for scooping material such as wood filler out of small containers and forcing it into holes (figure A).

If you're working with chemicals, consider using a disposable plastic putty knife (figure B).

Another type of putty knife has a stiff blade with a chisel-type edge that's useful for light scraping and mixing (figure C).
