Screws are great for holding things together, but sometimes they can be really hard to remove. If you need to remove a stubborn screw, here are some of the things that you want to make sure you do before you try to remove it.

If the slot is full of debris and paint, just take a screwdriver tip that is a little bit smaller and pick out the rust, paint and debris.

Then you can get a screwdriver tip that is the right size, insert it into the slot and turn it...or at least try. If that doesn't work, leave the tip in the slot, take a hammer and give it a couple of taps, just to jolt it. Then try and turn it.

Now here is a tip for those really stubborn screws. Get a wrench. Make sure that the tip is still in the slot and interlock the wrench on the square shank of the screwdriver and turn. There we go!
