Toolbox: Adhesives

Help Around the House : Episode ARH-124 -- More Projects »
It may look like I'm getting ready to do some caulking, but this tube is actually filled with glue. These gun-applied adhesives are stronger, thicker and they set quickly. They're especially good for construction projects. They apply just like caulk.

All you have to do spread the adhesive on one surface then take the other piece, press them together, separate the pieces to make sure you get good coverage, put the pieces back together...and in five minutes, it'll be set.

Always wear gloves when using this stuff because it's real hard to get off your hands. Gun-applied adhesives are especially good for backing up screws and giving nails more holding power. Also, on the tube, it'll tell you what the glue is good for joining, like wood to brick or plastic to wood. And always remember to read and follow the directions on the tube.
