PARADE Magazine and HGTV Support Historic Preservation

HGTV has partnered with PARADE magazine and the National Trust for Historic Preservation to support the Tell America’s Story Preservation Award contest. HGTV will provide one winner with a $25,000 grant as part of its "Restore America" initiative benefiting the National Trust. The grant will be used toward restoration of the winning historic site, which will be featured on HGTV in May.

"Clearly, PARADE shares our passion for helping Americans connect with their past and those places that played an important role in the day-to-day lives of our grandparents and great-grandparents—the people who laid the foundation for how we live today," says Judy Girard, president of HGTV. "The mission of the ‘Tell America’s Story’ contest aligns perfectly with our own efforts to support the restoration of America’s forgotten neighborhoods and communities."

PARADE announced the contest last May in honor of National Preservation Month. Readers were asked to identify little-known places in American communities where history may have happened, including sites that are significant in all areas of human endeavor—the visual and performing arts, science, government, sports, business, the law, public affairs, education, pop culture, even crime and scandal.

"The number and quality of the entries we’ve received in the ‘Tell America’s Story’ contest has been inspiring," said PARADE Editor-in-Chief Lee Kravitz. "We’re thrilled that HGTV will be promoting and adding such an exciting new dimension to the contest."

More than 2,500 nominations have been received. They will be judged by representatives from PARADE, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, and HGTV. Special guest judges include Academy Award-winning actor and preservationist Morgan Freeman, and Barabaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Chair, Historic Landmarks Preservation Center. Ten national winners will receive plaques by the world-renowned designer Massimo Vignelli. Fifty other winners will receive framed certificates. The best stories will be featured at www.parade.com and in PARADE.
