Lodge Restoration

Adirondack Lodge: Homeowners Beth and Brett Long called on architect Andrew Sidford to help them repair damage wrought by the elements on their 1922 Adirondack Mountain lodge and turn the house from a summer retreat into a year-round residence.

Tudor: For Christy and Alderon Laird, the toughest part of their restoring this 1939 northern California home was visualizing the finished product. With the help of an artist, and a lot of hard work, they turned their Tudor into a picture-perfect home.

Terms

• Pavilion roof - A hipped roof with especially steep smaller ends. Pavilion roofs are seen a lot on early French Colonial houses.
• Demilune window - A semicircular window, usually with a flat bottom and rounded top.
• Vertical grain - A wood pattern of distinct, parallel light and dark lines. It's also known as quarter-sawn wood.
