Greeneville, Tennessee's first postmaster, William Dickson, built this Federal style mansion for his daughter in 1815. Known as the "Showplace of East Tennessee " the Williams family entertained many famous guests such as Davy Crockett and President James K. Polk. During the Civil War, the Dickson-Williams mansion served as headquarters for both the Union and Confederate armies. It is open to the public.
