Virtual Makeover

Curb Appeal : Episode CRB-307 -- More Projects »
Landscape architect D.J. Johns adds a second story, stepping it back from the roof line of the first floor.

He then breaks up the first-floor eaves, bumping out a small front gable over the entryway, which helps open up the front of the house. Simple, square columns on either side of the front door also help add importance to the entry and dimension to the front.

He also replaces the hard, flat surface of wood siding and asphalt shingles with cedar shingles and a shake roof. With this same objective in mind, Johns faces the new stucco retaining wall in tightly stacked brownstone. He continues this look along the curb by replacing the tall iron fence with a low stacked rock wall.
