Designer Beryn Hammil starts her virtual makeover at the fence that sets this deep front yard off from the street. She replaces the utilitarian redwood and wire fence with a rustic fence that has more relaxed lattice work. Then she replaces the straight concrete pathway to the front door, which creates a more relaxed backyard feeling to this front garden.
Next, Hammil scatters small focal points throughout the garden, creating rooms with a variety of uses that turn the trip from the curb to the house into a relaxing journey. Wherever she looks, she wants to see flowers and more flowers.
Finally, she centers up the front door and the front steps under the new portico and wreaths the entire door in flowering vines.
