Steps:1. Using a pocketknife cut back the insulation around the pipe.
2. Cut away the broken ends of the pipe using a hacksaw (figure A). Sand the cut edges smooth with an emery cloth.
3. Next remove the ends and the washers from the PVC coupler (figure B).
4. Apply plumber's grease to the washers. Slide a nut and a washer on each of the cut ends of the pipe, facing inward toward each other (figure C).
5. Position coupler evenly between the two pipe ends and tighten down nuts (figure D). Give the repair a few days and check for leaks before replacing insulation.
