Home repair expert Henry Harrison drops by to help a guest replace his kitchen faucet. On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this job a two.

Tools:

basin wrench
putty knife
scrubbing pads
plumber's tape
plumber's putty
bucket
towel
faucet and spray nozzle

Steps:

1. Turn off hot and cold water supply valves under the sink. Open faucet to allow water to drain. Place a bucket under the sink to catch any excess water.

2. Use a basin wrench to reach up and loosen the nuts holding the water supply lines to the fixture (figure A).

3. Loosen the plastic retaining nut that holds the faucet assembly to the sink (figure B).

4. Remove other supply line. Remove spray nozzle from hose and drop the spray hose down through opening. Remove retaining nut holding spray hose mount in place and remove the mount and faucet assembly.

5. Scrape away residual gasket material and plumber's putty from sink surface using a putty knife (figure C). Clean surface of sink thoroughly with household cleaner and a scrubbing pad.

6. Wrap the ends of the new water supply lines with plumber's tape (figure D).

7. Drop the faucet assembly into position and secure by tightening retaining nut.

8. Run a bead of plumber's putty around ring of the spray nozzle base and place it and the hose guide in position (figure E).

9. Scrape away excess putty with putty knife. Secure base of spray ring with retaining nut.

10. Attach new spray hose to faucet assembly and attach supply lines to faucet (figure F)

11. Turn water back on and check connections for leaks.
