Create an aged wall using spackling and layers of rich glazes that looks like it's in the French countryside.
Materials:

smooth knife-grade Elastomeric compound (interior spackling, not drywall mud)
4 " taping or drywall knife
Fresh Start primer
paint (Benjamin Moore #2164-40 in eggshell finish)
water-based glaze (Elegant Transformations: Bamboo and Cocoa Bean)
wool sponge
paint trays
stencil (Dramatic Design and Decor's Series : Talavera)
Americana Acrylic Artist Colors (Black Forest Green, Forest Green, Burnt Umber, Terra Cotta)
squared artist's paintbrush
painter's or stencil tape
ruler
level
pencil

Steps:

1. Mask off all moldings and the ceiling line. Use the taping knife's corner to apply a small amount of paste to the wall, knocking it down and roughly smoothing it (it's not necessary to completely cover the surface). Clean the knife and let the surface dry overnight.

2. Tint the primer with #2164-40 and base-coat the wall. Let dry two to three hours and apply another coat . Let dry overnight.

3. Use a damp sponge to apply Cocoa Bean glaze to the wall surface in a circular motion. Rinse the sponge and let the glaze dry overnight.

4. Use a damp sponge to apply Bamboo glaze as in step 3. Let dry for two days.

5. Tape the first overlay to the wall. Lightly apply the colors with the squared artist's paintbrush, allowing some of the background to show through. Let dry and repeat with remaining overlays.
