Imitate the baroque charm of Venetian palace walls with a beautiful paint and stenciling technique.
Materials:

Benjamin Moore AquaPearl latex paint (#AC-12, #HC-69, #HC-44, #2161-60)
Benjamin Moore latex glazing liquid
Elegant Transformations glaze (Milk Chocolate)
wool sponges
paint trays
stencil (Agustina #GS-A101)
Ceramcoat paint (Metallic Bronze, Spice Brown, Burnt Umber)
medium stencil brushes
paint trays
stencil adhesive or painter's tape
tape measure
level
water-soluble artist pencil

Steps:

1. Base-coat wall surface with #AC-12 (terra cotta) and let dry overnight.

2. Mix some #HC-69 (dark brown) half and half with the glazing liquid and pour some in a tray. Lightly pad it evenly over the whole wall surface with the flatter side of a damp sponge. Rinse sponge and let wall dry three to four hours.

3. Apply #HC-44 (medium beige) as above but do not mix it with glazing liquid. Work the paint into the surface to create heavy and light areas.

4. Apply #2161-60 (light beige) as in step 3.

5. Pour Milk Chocolate glaze into a tray and lightly apply it with a damp sponge over the whole wall surface, and then rinse out the sponge. Wait one to two hours , and then apply a second coat only in the corners and around moldings, shading it into the main part of the wall. Rinse sponge and let wall surface dry overnight.

6. Find the center of the main wall and draw a vertical line using the level and pencil. This will be the center of the pattern. Center and adhere the stencil to the wall. Note: After doing the first vertical row, you will alternate the pattern to the left and the right until the wall is complete.

7. Pour some Metallic Bronze, Spice Brown and Burnt Umber into a tray. Pick up Spice Brown with a dry stencil brush and rub it against the tray until almost dry . Apply it randomly and very lightly over the stencil. Repeat with another brush and Burnt Umber in a very random pattern. Pick up some Bronze with a third brush and randomly brush it in areas. Tip: It takes very little color to make this technique work. If it's too heavy, the pattern will appear overwhelming.
