Geometric Stenciled Wall

Create a dramatic modern wall design using simple tools and various colors of paint.

dark latex paint for base coat
small foam paint rollers
pearlized pigments
acrylic artist's paints
craft knife
pencil
ruler
cutting mat
mat board
painter's tape

Steps:

1. Paint dark base coat and let dry.
2. Cut three or four 10" x 12" pieces of mat board. Use pencil and ruler to draw geometric shapes inside the boards to use as stencils. Cut the shapes out.
3. If desired, add pearlized pigments to paint and mix thoroughly.
4. Tape stencil in desired position and apply minimal paint (to keep it from bleeding behind the stencil) with a foam roller. Once dry, add another coat if desired.
5. Cover entire wall with geometric stencil shapes, including a chair rail border . Let dry well.
6. Layer smaller stencil shapes over the chair rail border to create depth and shadowing with black paint.
7. Paint smaller stencil shapes in coordinating colors over the dry large ones for an interesting look.
