Figure A
Materials:

WallMagic dual paint roller
satin latex paint (white base coat, Rouge Red #SW1301, Gold Gleam #SW1665 and Soft Sand #SW1079)
paintbrushes

Steps:

  1. Apply a base coat if necessary and let dry.
  2. Put roller in paint tray and fill one side with Rouge Red and one with Gold Gleam. Apply the colors in a crosshatch and swirl pattern to achieve a random look (practice on scrap drywall or cardboard before moving to the wall).
  3. For the second coat, put the third color (Soft Sand) in both sides of the tray with clean roller covers and start making slight diagonal designs--using more pressure on the top than the bottom--to give the walls a shaded look (figure A). Use brushes to blend the diagonal strokes together with a pouncing action, keeping some areas lighter than others so the first initial colors can be seen.
  4. Once all three colors are done, step back and survey the walls to make sure the color seems even around the room. Make any necessary adjustments.
