Heather Porter has done some wonderful things to the guesthouse she is renting. From her hot-pink bedroom to her bold turquoise living room, Porter has made it clear that she is not afraid of color! But this experienced do-it-yourselfer still has one bland white room left in her house: the kitchen. It won't stay white for long, though, for Porter plans to paint the walls (a periwinkle blue) and the ceiling (a Granny-Smith-apple green), and make it all look sharp by adding bright white wainscoting to the walls. Her ordinary white kitchen will fit in with the rest of her colorful house in no time. Porter starts the project by painting her ceiling and walls. Her cousin Matt Flanagan arrives to offer a helping hand. Porter finds she needs the help she can get when it comes to painting the whole kitchen. Painting is hard work, but at the end of the day, Porter's kitchen is already starting to look a lot more like her dream kitchen.
On day two, and Porter and Flanagan are ready to tackle the wainscoting. This is the part of the project Porter has been worried about. She's never done it before and doesn't know what sort of problems she might encounter. As it turns out, she was right to worry. The kitchen floor is nowhere near level, and there is an electrical outlet on the wall that Porter will have to work around. None of this is easy. After much struggle and a couple of 'do-overs,' the wainscoting panels are finally in place.
Eventually, Porter is ready for the last step in her kitchen remodel. She hangs curtains to frame her window and adds a series of antique plates to dress up the wall. When all is said and done, Porter is pleased. She was able to stick to her schedule and finish on time (though she worked longer hours than she had planned). Now her stunning new kitchen is in perfect sync with the rest of her home!
