Materials:

wool sponge
off-white acrylic latex paint (base coat for wall)
light camel latex paint (eggshell finish) mixed 50/50 with latex glazing liquid
bone white latex paint (eggshell finish) mixed 50/50 with latex glazing liquid
one part raw umber acrylic artist's paint mixed with 10 parts latex glazing liquid

Steps:

  1. Apply base coat and allow to dry. Using a slightly damp sponge, pat light camel paint onto surface (do not use a patterned sponge technique). Put a lot of pressure on the sponge, very little paint and don't allow a lot of background to show through .
  2. While the paint is still wet, rinse out sponge and use the bone white paint to repeat the process, allowing very little of the previous color to show through.
  3. Rinse out sponge again and add only a very small amount of raw umber to it and dab around edges and corners of wall to add age and shading.
