Decorative painter Leslie Linsley demonstrates how to bring a modern style into any room by giving the walls a brushed metal effect.
Materials:
base coat: olive hint
metal glaze: bronze
large wallpaper smoothing brush
nylon paintbrush
paint roller
painter's tape
Steps:
- Tape off woodwork and other areas where you do not want to apply this finish.
- Using a roller, apply a base coat of olive hint to the entire surface. For best results, remove the tape, and allow the paint to dry overnight.
- Reapply the tape.
- Apply the bronze glaze with a nylon paintbrush or roller. Work in 4' x 6' wide sections.
- Using a wallpaper smoothing brush, work through the wet glaze in a series of large overlapping arcs. By following the sweeping motion pattern, the base color will show through the glaze in certain areas.
- Remove the tape and allow the paint to dry overnight.
- After the first coat has dried, a second coat may be added to create a more metallic look.
